La’ah and Rahal with fiery ember glow

Day 1 — The Distinction

La’ah and Rahal

Overview

This portion of the account establishes the foundation of the entire study. Before fruit, before inheritance, before governance is revealed, the distinction must be made clear.

The distinction is between what is loved by man and what is established by Yahuah.

If this is not understood, the rest of the account will be interpreted incorrectly.

Read

Barashiyt 29:16–18

"Now, Laban had two daughters, The name of the oldest was La'ah, and the name of the younger was Rahal. La'ah had weak eyes, but Rahal was beautiful and had a loveley figure. Now, Ya'aqab loved Rahal, and he said, " Let me serve you for seven years for Rahal, your younger daughter."

Breakdown

The account immediately establishes contrast. Rahal is described in a way that draws the attention. She is seen as beautiful and favored. And the text confirms that Ya’aqab loved her. La’ah is not described in the same way. And more importantly, she is not the object of Ya’aqab’s affection.

This distinction is not superficial. It is structural. Because from this moment forward, the reader must understand: the account will not follow what Ya’aqab loves. It will follow what Yahuah establishes.

Relationship to Aluah

Yahuah does not govern according to human preference. He is not moved by what is outwardly desired, nor does He establish according to what is favored by man. He governs according to His order.

This means that what appears overlooked in the natural may be the very thing He has chosen to establish in function.

Anchor

What is loved by man is not what determines what is established by Yahuah.

Daily Practice

Examine where your perception of value is tied to what is seen, chosen, or desired.

Identify one area where you may have overlooked what Yahuah is establishing.

Palal

Yahuah…
Remove from me the measure of man.
Where I have valued what is seen, correct me.
Where I have pursued what is favored, realign me.
Teach me to discern what You are establishing,
even when it is not desired.
Bring my heart into agreement with Your order.
